Getting Out of Florida

CITY OF NEW SMYRNA BEACH MARINA, June 29, 2014

Our day started out with a calm breeze and sunny skies, but winds increased and clouds were moving in, it was time to get ourselves settled for the evening.  Diane suggested New Smyrna Yacht Club, but JP suggested the City Marina that offered a bit more protection.  After 59.8 NM in 6 hours we were tied up for the evening.

MARINELAND MARINA, June 30, 2014
We woke to sunny skies and winds out of the north, it was time to depart.  , with an early departure from New Smyrna City Marine we covered 43.7 NM  in 6.5 hours,
We miss anchoring out, welcome to the ICW along with a Tropical Storm,

JAX BEACH / PORT COVE MARINA, July 1 - 2, 2014
Marineland Marina was a very pleasant place to spend an evening, free laundry, across the street from the Marineland Dolphin Center and the Atlantic Ocean and on Tuesday Morning they have a Market at the marina.

FERNANDINA BEACH, July 3, 2014
We arrived and stopped at the city dock for a pump out.  Typically one docks going into the wind, we had wind 20 ++ and current at our back, hmmm.  A quick pump out and then it was off and across the ICW to pick up a mooring.  We dropped the dink and went to shore to pay our mooring bill, shower and stroll downtown.  As we walked into the lounge, we met a woman from Normandy / France and she and JP chatted a bit.  We made it back to MS just in time for the wicked storm that came our way.  We were hoping for a quiet evening at anchor, but between the noise from the Paper Mill and the mooring ball stuck between our two hauls at midnight, it was not a pleasant stay.  Fernandina is a pleasant area and the downtown is quite nice, maybe in the fall we will stop and stroll the streets.
